Oxbow Public Market is Napa's answer to the grand European food hall: a 40,000-square-foot public market at 610 and 644 First Street, on the east side of the Napa River in the Oxbow District. Under one roof (technically three), the market gathers artisan food vendors, wine and cheese shops, a butcher, a bakery, a bookstore, and a distillery, plus a riverfront deck and plenty of free parking.
The anchor tenants read like a Napa greatest-hits list. Hog Island Oyster Co. shucks oysters to order, Gott's Roadside serves its famous burgers a short walk from the hall, Model Bakery sells the English muffins worth planning a morning around, Ritual Coffee Roasters pours the coffee, and The Fatted Calf handles charcuterie. Kara's Cupcakes, Napa Valley Distillery, and a Napa Bookmine outpost round out the merchants.
The market is open every day, generally from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., though individual vendors keep their own hours, and some close earlier. It is the rare Napa stop that works for a quick coffee at dawn, a picnic assembly before a tasting room day, or a casual dinner with no reservation and no dress code.
